Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information NovaBrief ("we", "us") collects, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the NovaBrief app, the novabrief.ai website, and shared pages. By using NovaBrief, you agree to this Policy.

Information We Collect

• Account information — your email address, name (if provided), sign-in provider (Apple, Google, or email), and account identifiers. If you use Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email; we then receive a private relay address.
• Your preferences — the topics, sources, people and companies you follow; onboarding answers; notification, briefing and quiet-hours settings.
• Usage & engagement — reactions (👍/👎), which stories you open, save or share, and basic in-app interaction events, used to personalize your briefings.
• Ask Nova conversations — the questions you ask and the answers you receive, saved to your account so you can return to them.
• Reports — when you report a story or answer, what you reported, the reason you chose, and any note you add.
• Location — if you provide it, the city or region you type, to include local weather and relevant news. We do not use your device's GPS location.
• Device information — a push-notification token and standard device and app details (such as model, operating system and app version) needed to deliver notifications and updates.
• Subscription status — whether you have an active trial or subscription. Payments are processed by Apple; we do not collect or store your payment-card details.
• Diagnostics — when something goes wrong in the app, we record technical details of the error (error message, the screen or request involved, your platform and app version, and a shortened account identifier) so we can fix it. These reports do not include the contents of your briefings or Ask Nova conversations.
• App launch statistics — our app platform provider (Expo) receives anonymous counts of app launches by app version and platform, used to check that updates install correctly.
• Launch waitlist — if you join the waitlist on novabrief.ai, your email address, used only to tell you about NovaBrief's availability. Every waitlist email has an unsubscribe link.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide, personalize and deliver your news briefings, notifications and Ask Nova answers.
• To operate, maintain, secure and improve the Service, including preventing abuse and fixing errors.
• To review reports and keep the Service safe and accurate.
• To manage subscriptions and provide customer support.
• To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.

We do not show ads, and we do not use your information for advertising.

AI Processing

To write summaries and briefings and to answer your Ask Nova questions, the relevant story content and the messages you send are processed by our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude), under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train its models on this content. Ask Nova only sends your questions after you agree to it in the app, and you can turn it off in Settings. Do not include sensitive personal information in Ask Nova messages.

How We Share Information

We share limited information with service providers who help us run the Service, only as needed for them to do so:

• Apple — Sign in with Apple and App Store subscription processing.
• Google — Sign in with Google.
• Google Firebase / Cloud — authentication and database storage.
• Railway — hosting for our servers.
• RevenueCat — subscription management and entitlement tracking.
• Anthropic — AI generation (summaries, briefings and Ask Nova).
• Expo — push-notification delivery, app updates, and anonymous app-launch statistics.
• NewsAPI.ai — news article sourcing (we do not send them your personal information).
• Finnhub and Yahoo Finance — market and stock data for tickers you follow.
• Mapbox — looking up a city you type, to localize your news.
• OpenWeather — weather data for the location you provide.
• Cloudflare — hosting for our website and shared links.
• Kit — email delivery for the launch waitlist (website signups only).

We may also disclose information if required by law or legal process, to protect the rights, safety or property of NovaBrief, our users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets (in which case this Policy will continue to apply to your information). We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Shared Pages

If you choose to share a story or an Ask Nova conversation, the content you share is published to a public web page that anyone with the link can view. Do not share anything you consider private. These pages ask search engines not to index them, but we cannot guarantee a page that has been linked elsewhere stays out of search results.

When anyone opens a shared NovaBrief link, including people who do not use the app, we log basic technical details of the visit (browser user-agent and the referring page, if any) to count how often shared links are opened. We do not use cookies or trackers on these pages, and we do not use this to build a profile of the visitor.

Data Retention

We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings → Account → Delete Account), we permanently delete your account and associated data, including your preferences, follows, bookmarks, Ask Nova conversations, reports and shared pages, and, if you used Sign in with Apple, we ask Apple to disconnect NovaBrief from your Apple ID. Some data is deleted automatically on a schedule regardless: diagnostic/error records within about 30 days, and short-lived records used to avoid duplicate notifications within about 48 hours. We may keep limited information where the law requires it.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live (including California and other U.S. states with privacy laws), you may have the right to: know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it; access or get a copy of it; correct it; delete it; and opt out of its sale, sharing for targeted advertising, or profiling (we do none of these). You can delete your account and data yourself in the app at any time. To make any other request, email support@novabrief.ai from the email address on your account; we may need to verify your identity, and will respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent, and if we decline your request you may appeal by replying to our response. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

NovaBrief is intended for adults 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

International Users

NovaBrief is operated from the United States. Your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than where you live.

Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Policy here and change the effective date, and for material changes we will give notice in the app or by email.
